Famous Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian’s son Karen
Khachaturian turned to Nikol Pashinyan in support of Armen and Sergey Smbatyan.
He referred to the invaluable contribution that the
Smbatyans made to Armenian culture and to the promotion of Aram Khachaturian’s
legacy. He also expressed hope that the current situation will be handled.
“I am writing to you as I am sure that if my father,
Aram Khachaturian were alive, he would definitely turn to you with regard to
this important issue. Until the verdict is reached, Armen and Sergey Smbatyan
are held in custody. They are people whose contribution to Armenian culture is
invaluable,” Karen Khachaturian wrote.
He noted that although his dad was not born in Armenia, he
took great pride in his Armenian origin and of the fact how he represented the
Armenian nation.
“He was imbued with this sense of pride especially when
he attended the performances of his own works abroad. In this regard, we can
claim that in the past 15 years no musician has so brilliantly performed Aram
Khachaturian’s works on the most famous stages of the world as Sergey Smbatyan
has done,” Aram Khachaturian’s son wrote.
