Total blockade of Artsakh increases mortality and morbidity rates
On account of the eight-month total blockade of the only
road (the Lachin corridor) connecting Artsakh to Armenia, the people of Artsakh
have been suffering an acute shortage of medical and food supplies and constant
stress. As a result, in blockaded Artsakh the rates of medical complications
have grown as compared to the previous year.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Artsakh reports
that in the past seven months, that is in the period between January and July,
the death rate from circulatory system diseases has increased more than
twofold. Thus, the death rate from acute and chronic heart failure has
increased by 66%, from acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) by 20.8%,
from cerebral palsy by 8.8%.
