Miller: We believe, that despite any comments from other countries who are not a party to the conflict, an agreement remains within reach
Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Matthew Miller
referred to the statement made by the Russian Foreign Ministry official with
regard to the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Russian official
had said that entering into the peace agreement in haste will lead to new
conflicts.
“I don’t want to speak with respect to Russia when it comes
to Armenia and Azerbaijan. I want to speak with respect to those two countries
who are directly related – who are direct parties in this dispute. We
have been engaged directly with those countries. Special Envoy Bono traveled to
the region last week and engaged directly with them. And we believe,
despite any comments from other countries who are not a party to this matter,
that an agreement remains within reach, and we will continue to work with them
to pursue it,” he said.
To remind, Director of the Fourth CIS Department of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Denis Gonchar had stated earlier that the
attempt to reach an Azerbaijani-Armenian peace agreement in haste, at the
expense of quality and careful preparation, will lead to new conflicts in the
future.
