Erdoğan on Palestine’s Recognition, support for Syria, and Libya’s sovereignty
Turkey stands in solidarity with “brotherly Qatar and the Palestinian people”, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told reporters after a visit to Qatar.
“I am sure that recognition of Palestine as a state by Western countries will put Israel in an even more difficult position,” Erdoğan stated, adding that Turkey “will remain the flagbearer of the Palestinian struggle under all circumstances.”
With regard to Syria, the Turkish president stressed that Ankara would never leave Syria alone. He noted that Turkey’s foreign minister and intelligence chief are engaged in close dialogue with Damascus. “A new era is beginning now. But as you know, Israel is exerting pressure on Syria from the south,” Erdoğan said.
“They are acting according to the principle of ‘divide and rule,’ trying to gain certain advantages from it. At the same time, there is now a government in Syria that prioritizes inclusivity. This has altered the balance of power in the country, and there are those who cannot accept it,” the Turkish president added.
Erdoğan also addressed the situation in Libya, noting: “We consider it essential to establish constructive dialogue between eastern and western Libya. We want to preserve Libya’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity. We are taking steps in line with those goals.”
