Trump must stop considering himself the ‘emperor of the world’, says Brazil’s president
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump should stop viewing himself as the “emperor of the world” and instead begin a civilized dialogue with other countries, TASS reports.
“I have no relationship with Trump because I wasn’t president when he was first elected. He has ties with [former Brazilian president, 2019–2022] Bolsonaro, not with Brazil,” Lula said.
The Brazilian leader noted that he had “never tried to call” Trump to discuss U.S. tariffs because he “never wanted to talk” to him. At the same time, Lula said he would be ready to “greet” Trump next week during the U.N. General Assembly in New York but emphasized that Trump should not see himself as the “emperor of the world.”
According to Lula, the U.S. leader and his administration did not treat Brazil in a “civilized manner” when imposing tariffs on Brazilian goods.
He also rejected claims that Brazil is assisting Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine by purchasing Russian oil. “Brazil is not financing Russia. We buy oil from Russia because we need to buy oil. China, India, the UK, and the U.S. also need to buy oil,” Lula said.
