France to recognize state of Palestine on Sept. 22, says Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed that France will recognize the State of Palestine on Sept. 22. He announced the decision in an X post.
Macron had first revealed his intention to recognize Palestine back in July.
“I spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas… I confirmed to President Abbas my intention to recognize the State of Palestine this Monday in New York,” Macron wrote.
Earlier, Politico reported that Israel is preparing retaliatory measures in response to France’s planned recognition of Palestine in September. These may include, among other steps, accelerating annexation in the West Bank and closing France’s consulate in Jerusalem.
