Turkey lifts US tariffs ahead of Erdoğan’s New York visit
Turkish authorities have lifted several additional tariffs on goods imported from the United States that had been in place since 2018, according to the country’s official government bulletin.
The removal affects 33 products, including alcoholic beverages, passenger cars, tobacco, and cosmetics. According to Turkey’s Ministry of Trade, the decision came after “successful and productive negotiations.”
“We will continue to work and implement policies to reach a trade volume of $100 billion, which is one of the main goals of economic relations between Turkey and the U.S.,” the ministry said.
The decision to lift the additional tariffs comes ahead of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the United States. Erdoğan will attend the U.N. General Assembly and hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Sept. 25.
