‘I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country’: Jolie criticizes US, calling for free speech
Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie, currently in Spain, spoke about restrictions on free speech and rights in the United States. Jolie noted that while she still loves her country, she no longer recognizes it, Fox News reports.
Speaking at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where she is presenting her film “Couture”, Jolie was asked: “What do you fear most as an artist and as an American?” The actress took a deep breath and even paused for several minutes before responding.
“That’s a very difficult question. I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country. I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous. These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together,” Jolie stated.
