Western countries exert pressure on Armenia, setting it
against the partnership with Russia. Director of the Fourth CIS
Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Denis Gonchar said this
in his interview to TASS.
“As for some negative aspects that can be noticed in
the relations between Russia and Armenia, their primary reason is the
determined attempts of western countries to spoil the partnership between us.
They resort to any methods, including rather dirty ones, namely threat of
sanctions, unfair competition, vague promises, where, as the Armenian proverb
says ‘There is more smoke than barbecue’ (Much ado about nothing),”
Gonchar noted.
According to the Russian official, they have become witness
many a time to how “western friendship” manifests itself in post-Soviet
countries.
“We place reliance on the wisdom of our Armenian partners.
When it comes to us, we are as always full of determination to settle all
difficult issues as allies, i.e. through direct and sincere dialogue,” the
diplomat said.
