The attempt to reach an Azerbaijani-Armenian peace agreement
in haste, at the expense of quality and careful preparation, will lead to new
conflicts in the future. Director of the Fourth CIS Department of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Russia Denis Gonchar said this in his interview to TASS.
“A raw peace agreement will not bring about lasting
peace in the region. On the contrary, it will lay a foundation for new
conflicts and disasters. Reaching rational and mutually acceptable decisions
should take priority over hasty decisions,” the diplomat said.
He noted that the job of mediators is not to speed up the
negotiation process for some other “opportunistic reasons”, but to
help reach a long-term agreement.
