Lavrov gives thumbs-up after talks with US secretary of state

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov summed up the outcome of his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio by raising a thumbs-up, RIA Novosti reports.

On Wednesday, Lavrov and Rubio met behind closed doors in New York on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session. The talks lasted about an hour. Following the meeting, Lavrov did not speak to the press, offering only the gesture.

According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the two diplomats confirmed their interest in finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. The U.S. State Department said Rubio reiterated President Trump’s call to end the war during the discussions.
