South African ambassador reported missing in Paris

The South African ambassador to France has gone missing in Paris, according to French media reports. An investigation has been launched and search efforts are under way, the news outlet Actu17 reported on Tuesday, citing sources.

“South Africa’s ambassador to France, Emmanuel Nkosinathi Mthethwa, mysteriously disappeared on Monday afternoon… Search operations are under way,” the report stated.

According to preliminary information, the disappearance of the 58-year-old diplomat was reported around 3 p.m. local time, but his security staff did not notify police until later in the day, Actu17 said. Law enforcement authorities have opened an investigation and are examining several possible scenarios, while the ambassador’s relatives have been questioned.
