Davit Tonoyan confirms Onik Gasparyan’s statement on his report at Security Council meeting on 3rd day of war

Davit Tonoyan confirms Onik Gasparyan’s statement on his report at Security Council meeting on 3rd day of war

At the meeting of the investigative committee under the NA,
Former Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan also referred to the statement made by
Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan.
According to Gasparyan’s statement, on the third day of the war, he reported
that the Armenian Armed Forces could no longer resist the enemy.

To remind, Pashinyan tried to deny Onik Gasparyan’s
statement. Moreover, he shared a fragment from Gasparyan’s report, made at the
Security Council meeting, with the aim of denying what he said.

However, Davit Tonoyan noted that he surely remembers that
such information was given and that before reporting it at the Security Council
meeting, Onik Gasparyan had reported the same to him.

“Whether I was satisfied with the report or not is not
the matter in question. Anyway, that was the situation on the ground, and it
was necessary to present it at the Security Council meeting,” Tonoyan
said.

He also noted that their calculations had not been accurate,
and they had not foreseen the possibility of Turkey’s appearing 25 kilometers
away from the Artsakh front.

MP Armen Khachatryan wondered what was the reason for their
relaxed approach to the assessment of risks with regard to Turkey’s factor. He
asked Tonoyan whether the fact of Russia’s being our strategic ally was the
reason for this. In response to his question, Tonoyan said: “We were not
relaxed. We were worried.”
