2 dead as military plane crashes in Italy

A military aircraft belonging to the 70th Air Squadron of the Italian Air Force crashed in the municipality of Sabaudia, Lazio region, killing two people, Corriere della Sera reports.

According to the report, the flight was a training mission.

“The T-260B aircraft of the 70th Air Squadron, which was carrying out a training exercise, crashed for unknown reasons in the Circeo National Park area. Rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene,” the Italian Air Force said in a statement.

Rescue workers found the bodies of two soldiers in the plane, who were apparently unconscious, Rai News reports. The plane crashed in a wooded area near one of the park’s entrances, where there was no one at the time.

The bodies of the deceased servicemen were recovered and sent for forensic examination.

The investigation into the causes of the crash is being led by the Italian Air Force.

Specialists are analyzing the aircraft’s technical condition, its flight path, and any malfunction reports transmitted by the crew before the incident.
