Trump urges Israel to immediately halt Gaza bombardment
Following Hamas’s announcement of readiness to negotiate a peace plan for Gaza, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that “Israel must immediately stop bombing Gaza.”
“Based on Hamas’s recent statement, I believe they are ready for a lasting peace. Israel must immediately halt its bombardment of Gaza so that we can quickly and safely secure the release of the prisoners. I look forward to seeing the hostages return to their families soon,” Trump said.
Hamas earlier declared that, in exchange for Israel’s cessation of the war in Gaza and the complete withdrawal of its forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives—both living and deceased—under the terms outlined in Trump’s proposed exchange plan.
“In this context, the movement indicates its readiness to immediately begin negotiations through mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement.
The group also indicated that it is willing to transfer the governance of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, based on national consensus and with the backing of Arab and Islamic nations.
