Foreign intelligence agents trying to destabilize Georgia, says Kobakhidze

Foreign intelligence agents and extremist groups are attempting to destabilize the situation in Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in an interview with Rustavi 2.

According to Kobakhidze, around 500 people could be involved in organizing provocations on behalf of foreign entities.

“Previously, the main instruments of revolutions were political parties, followed by media representatives and civil society organizations. Now the methods have become much harsher, involving extremist groups and agents. These are foreign intelligence services directly engaged in the process,” Kobakhidze said.

He also accused European institutions of supporting anti-state activities.

“Earlier, the American bureaucracy was involved in these processes, and now European institutions have joined them directly. These are clearly anti-state actions against our country,” he stated.

Local government elections were held in Georgia on Oct․ 4. According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, the ruling Georgian Dream party received more than 80% of the votes, eliminating the need for a second round.

After the polls closed, tensions rose in Tbilisi. Some protesters attempted to storm the presidential residence and seize power, leading to clashes. Five organizers of the protest were subsequently arrested.
