Sébastien Lecornu reappointed as French PM

French President Emmanuel Macron has reappointed former Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to the same position, Le Figaro reports.

Lecornu had resigned from the post on Oct. 6, after serving only 27 days as prime minister.

In a post on X, Lecornu said he had accepted the mission entrusted to him by the president “out of a sense of duty.” He pledged to “do his best to secure France’s budget by the end of the year and address the daily challenges faced by our fellow citizens.”

“We must put an end to this political crisis that is angering the French people,” he wrote.

Lecornu is now expected to form a new government and subsequently present the 2026 budget for approval — a proposal that had been one of the main reasons behind his predecessor François Bayrou’s resignation.
