Israel’s president to award Trump medal of honor for efforts to free hostages

Israeli President Isaac Herzog will present U.S. President Donald Trump with a Medal of Honor in recognition of his efforts to secure the release of hostages.

According to a statement from the Office of the President of Israel, the award will be given to Trump “for the historic agreement, his unwavering and complete support for the State of Israel, his special contribution to the security and well-being of its citizens, and his commitment to leading the entire region into an era of peace and cooperation.”

Earlier reports said that thousands of Israelis gathered at Hostages Square in central Tel Aviv, awaiting the return of individuals held captive in the Gaza Strip for more than two years.

Relatives of the hostages gathered at the Re’im Airbase in southern Israel, where the freed captives were taken following their release.

Previously, Hamas had published a list of 20 hostages set to be released later today.
