
Dozens injured as 2 trains collide in Slovakia
At least 20 people were injured after two trains collided in the Košice region of eastern Slovakia, TASR news agency reports.
The crash occurred near the town of Rožňava. According to regional police, both trains were carrying a large number of passengers. Five ambulances and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene, and passengers are gradually being evacuated from the trains.
According to a statement from Slovak Railways (ZSSK), the collision took place on a section of track where a double line merges into a single track. The company said that the immediate priority is to rescue and evacuate passengers and ensure the safety of the railway staff.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway.
Rail traffic in the affected area has been temporarily suspended, and authorities warned that it may take several hours to restore service.
