Odessa mayor holds Russian citizenship: Ukraine’s Security Service issues passport copy
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has confirmed the news that Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov has been stripped of citizenship. The agency released a photo of Trukhanov’s Russian passport, RBC reports, citing an SBU statement.
According to the announcement, Trukhanov is a Russian citizen and holds a valid Russian passport issued in 2015.
In 2017, Trukhanov’s representatives submitted a request to a Russian authority, after which the Moscow Regional Court annulled his Russian passport. However, in additional clarifications, the court noted that the annulment of the document does not imply the legal deprivation of Russian citizenship.
