NATO expands into CIS under the Guise of assistance, says Bortnikov

NATO is expanding into the CIS region under the pretext of helping countries with military modernization, as well as the technical reinforcement of intelligence and law enforcement agencies, RIA Novosti writes, referring to Alexander Bortnikov, Director of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and Chairman of the Council of Security Chiefs and Special Services of CIS Member States.

According to Bortnikov, threats to the security and stability of CIS countries are deliberately fueled from outside.

“The policy of NATO expansion, the immediate consequence of which was the Ukrainian crisis, has not frozen. It continues toward other post-Soviet states — under the cover of projects for military modernization, various forms of assistance to military infrastructure, technical reinforcement of intelligence and law enforcement agencies, and retraining of specialists,” Bortnikov said.
