Armenian national arrested in connection with Russian director’s murder

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over a severe bodily injury that led to the death of a man in eastern Moscow. The victim’s name was not initially released, but media reports identify him as director and cinematographer Sergey Politik.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on the evening of Oct. 18 near a house on Stalevarov Street. The cause was reportedly a “domestic dispute.” The suspected killer is a foreign national born in 1992. He stabbed the man and fled the scene. The victim suffered stab wounds to the chest and later died in hospital.

The case has been opened under Article 111, Part 4 of the Russian Criminal Code.

Citing law enforcement sources, TASS reported that the deceased was 56-year-old director and cinematographer Sergey Politik. The Baza Telegram channel reported that Politik had admonished an unknown individual for behaving strangely, after which the person attacked him with a knife. REN TV and the Mash Telegram channel provided similar accounts.

The suspect is a 33-year-old Armenian citizen. Sergey Politik worked on the TV series “Closed School”, as well as on movies including “Nannies”, “Fourth District”, and others.
