Prince William planning to strip family members of royal titles after taking the throne

The heir to the British throne reportedly plans to radically reform monarchical traditions once he becomes king, The Daily Beast reports.

Prince William — the future King William V — intends to remove royal titles from all relatives who do not perform official duties. According to sources close to Kensington Palace, the decision is part of a broader structural reform aimed at reducing the number of “working” members of the monarchy.

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, as well as Prince Harry and his children, Archie and Lilibet, are expected to lose not only their titles but also the “His/Her Royal Highness” style of address.

To implement these plans, the future monarch will have to issue a special royal decree, since under current law it is not possible to strip a prince or princess of their title. Under the same plan, the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton would retain their titles until they reach an age when they can decide for themselves whether they wish to undertake royal duties.
