Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement ready, with only finishing touches to be added, says Azerbaijan’s PM
The peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is essentially ready, with only the final details remaining, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said in his speech at the Tbilisi 5th Silk Road Forum.
He noted that both sides will continue working toward this goal. “When the time comes, it will be signed,” Asadov added.
According to the Azerbaijani prime minister, by lifting restrictions on the transit of cargo to Armenia, Azerbaijan has contributed to restoring cooperation and trust in the region.
He further stated that the agreements reached on the agenda of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process are of historic significance for ensuring stable regional cooperation. Asadov stated that opening regional communication routes will help expand the transit capacity of the region for international freight transport.
“We are sure that the new route opening in the region, based on the agreements reached in Washington on Aug. 8 this year, will become a key section of the Middle Corridor and enhance its role in the global transport network. Azerbaijan continues to demonstrate its commitment to restoring cooperation and trust in the region. Azerbaijan has made significant contributions in this regard by lifting all restrictions on cargo transport to Armenia. The transport of Kazakh grain to Armenia via Azerbaijani territory is, in this sense, the first practical step. As President Ilham Aliyev has noted, this shows that peace is no longer only on paper, but also in real life,” Asadov said.
