Jewelry stolen from the Louvre wasn’t insured; France to receive no compensation
The jewelry stolen from the Louvre was not insured, and France will not receive compensation for their loss, the Financial Times reports, citing the French government.
The country’s Ministry of Culture stated that the state itself acts as the insurer when exhibits from national museums are kept in their designated storage locations.
Among the stolen items were Empress Eugénie’s diamond comb and Queen Marie-Amélie’s sapphire crown, necklace, and earrings.
The robbery at the Louvre occurred last Sunday, lasting only seven minutes. Four thieves managed to enter the world-famous museum and steal nine historically valuable pieces in that short time.
Earlier, France’s minister of justice described the theft as a failure for the country.
