Russia–Armenia relations have become more mature, but it takes two to tango, says Sergey Kopirkin

Relations between Russia and Armenia are becoming more mature, but that does not mean there are no disagreements, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said during Sputnik Armenia’s “Abovyan Time” program․

“We are changing, and the world around us is changing. Our relations are acquiring new characteristics. I’m not afraid to say they are becoming more mature. This doesn’t mean that all issues have been resolved or that there are no disagreements or misunderstandings. These matters concern the vital interests of both countries — economic and social interests. That’s why discussions are ongoing. This is normal. The main thing is that there must be movement from both sides. Nowadays, people like to use the tango metaphor — and it’s true, it takes two to tango. That’s exactly what this is about,” the Russian diplomat said.

However, according to Kopirkin, relations between Russia and Armenia are not limited to economic cooperation, as important as that may be. Russian-Armenian relations are not only and not so much intergovernmental, but rather relations between two peoples. In this context, he stated, the humanitarian agenda is of great importance.
