
Irakli Garibashvili charged
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for money laundering, Georgia’s Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvaramadze, announced during a press briefing, according to interfax.ru.
During searches of the homes of former high-ranking Georgian officials, including Garibashvili, the State Security Service of Georgia reported seizing over $7 million, jewelry, and valuable paintings.
Garibashvili was elected chairman of the Georgian Dream party on Feb. 1, 2024. He has been involved in the party’s activities since its founding in 2012. From 2012 to 2013, he served as Minister of Internal Affairs, and he has held the prime minister position twice (2013 and 2021). Additionally, he served as Minister of Defense from 2019 to 2022.
