The Federation Council of Russia calls on Armenia to assess risks of being party to Rome Statute

The National Assembly of Armenia should study the
consequences that may arise in case  becomes a party to the Rome Statute.
They should also assess the risks that this move can pose to the allied relations
with Russia. Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov made a
statement on this.

To remind, the Constitutional Court of Armenia, by its
decision of March 24, 2023, held that the Rome Statute does not contravene the
country’s constitution.

“This, we can infer that with this all the cases
considered in Armenia will come under the jurisdiction of the International
Court of Justice. We think that this move of our Armenian partners should not
be viewed within an anti-Russian context. However, in fact it greatly affects
Russian-Armenian relations. Russia, in this case, I am turning to the
parliamentarians,” Vorobyov said.

According to him, Russian and Armenian foreign ministries
are engaged in a dialogue on this.
