US stance on Ukraine has fundamentally changed, says Lavrov

The U.S. administration’s stance on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine has “fundamentally” changed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Following the Alaska summit, Trump had “stated directly and publicly that, in his view, it was not about a ceasefire but about a stable, long-term peace.” According to Lavrov, the current discussion is now focused solely on a ceasefire.

“Now they are only talking about an immediate ceasefire, after which history will judge. This is a radical change,” the Russian foreign minister said in an interview with the Hungarian Ultrahang YouTube channel.

“It also means that Europeans are neither sleeping nor eating but trying to ‘tie the hands’ of this administration,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov claimed that the United States is under immense and unprecedented pressure from European hawks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and others, who “do not want any U.S.-Russian cooperation in any area.”
