Thailand declares 1-year mourning following Queen Mother’s death
Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit has passed away at the age of 93. She was the wife of former King Bhumibol Adulyadej for 60 years, Kommersant reports.
“A one-year mourning period is declared in the Kingdom following the death of Her Majesty Queen Mother Sirikit,” the royal palace said in a statement.
Since 2019, Sirikit had been hospitalized under medical supervision. On Oct. 17, 2025, she was diagnosed with a blood infection.
Her son, Thailand’s current King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has ordered that the funeral be conducted at the highest level. The farewell ceremony will be open to all citizens and will take place in the Throne Hall of the Royal Palace in Bangkok.
