Under Georgian Dream government, Georgia won’t join EU even by 2030, says Marta Kos

Georgia will not become a member of the European Union even by 2030 under the policies pursued by the ruling Georgian Dream party, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said in an interview with the Georgian outlet Pirveli, as reported by apsny.ge.

According to Kos, Georgian Dream is carrying out propaganda against Georgia’s EU membership.

“The arrests of journalists, political opponents, and representatives of civil society do not align with our expectations from a candidate country for EU membership. That’s why I call on the Georgian authorities to stop taking anti-democratic steps that further distance Georgia from the European Union,” she said.

Kos added that the EU is developing a new mechanism to suspend the visa-free regime with Georgia, which will be finalized in November.

“After that, we will discuss various options and possibilities regarding visa-free travel with Georgia. Georgian Dream simply needs to listen and pay closer attention to what we are doing in Europe,” she added.
