Papuashvili on why Georgia won’t attend EuroNest parliamentary session in Yerevan
EuroNest is a platform for cooperation and dialogue between the European Parliament and Eastern Partnership countries. The fact that Azerbaijan and Georgia will not participate in the EuroNest parliamentary session in the South Caucasus confirms what Georgia sees as the European Parliament’s inappropriate conduct, said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.
He noted that EuroNest is effectively isolating itself from the Eastern Partnership and attempting to build regional policy based on its own political preferences.
Papuashvili called it shameful that representatives of Georgia’s opposition parties were invited to the EuroNest session.
“We will not take part in this farce. We cannot legitimize the hostile rhetoric of certain European parliamentarians toward the Georgian government,” the speaker added.
The 12th plenary session of the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly will take place in Yerevan from Oct. 28–30. Both the Georgian and Azerbaijani delegations have refused to participate.
