Trump urges Putin to end war instead of testing missiles
U.S. President Donald Trump commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of the successful test of the Burevestnik nuclear missile during a press interaction, the White House said.
“I think it’s inappropriate for Putin to make such announcements. He should end the war, which was supposed to last a week but is now approaching its fourth year. That’s what he should focus on, not testing missiles,” Trump said.
The U.S. president also noted that “they know we have a nuclear submarine, the best in the world, right off their shores. So we don’t need a missile that flies 8,000 miles.”
“They’re not playing games with us, and we’re not playing games with them,” Trump said, reiterating that the U.S. “possesses nuclear submarines and has no need to launch missiles over such distances.”
On Oct. 26, the Kremlin press service released footage showing Putin discussing the Burevestnik missile test with military leadership. According to the recording, the nuclear-powered missile was launched on Oct. 21. Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported that the missile traveled 14,000 kilometers and remained in the air for approximately 15 hours. Putin described the Burevestnik as a “unique product, unlike anything else in the world.”
