Louvre heist committed by ‘petty criminals’ from poor Paris district, not professionals
The recent Louvre heist was carried out by “petty criminals” from a poor district of Paris, rather than members of an organized crime group, Reuters writes.
According to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau, the suspects who have been detained had previous convictions for petty theft. Four people are currently in custody. Earlier reports mentioned seven arrests, but three of those individuals have since been released.
The robbery at the world’s most visited museum took place on Oct. 19. Four individuals stole jewelry worth €88 million in broad daylight, entering the museum through a window using a ladder.
