Orbán says as long as Trump is president and he is PM, there will be no sanctions against Hungary
In a Facebook post Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán expressed confidence that as long as he and U.S. President Donald Trump remain in power, Budapest will not face U.S. sanctions related to oil and gas supplies from Russia.
“President Trump and I shook hands to mark that Hungary will be exempt from U.S. oil sanctions for an indefinite period. As long as he is president and I am prime minister, there will be no sanctions,” Orbán wrote.
He noted that the imposition of U.S. sanctions on Russian energy suppliers would lead to triple the costs of utilities and a rise in fuel prices. The Hungarian leader stated that “this disaster” was avoided thanks to his meeting with Trump.
