Year’s largest solar flare occurring on Sun

The largest solar flare of the year is currently taking place on the Sun, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“The biggest flare of the year. Growing,” the laboratory posted on its Telegram channel.

According to the laboratory, the flare has already exceeded X5.0 in strength and continues to grow. Previously, the strongest flare of the year was X2.7, which occurred in mid-May.
