Attempts made in UK to remove PM from office

A plot is reportedly being organized within the UK’s Labour Party to remove Prime Minister Keir Starmer from office, the BBC reports, citing sources close to the prime minister.

Critics say it is evidence that Downing Street is “in full bunker mode” which “won’t help the government out of the hole we’re in.”

Those names being discussed by Labour MPs as potential candidates to displace Sir Keir include some of his closest cabinet allies, especially Wes Streeting, the health secretary, and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

The BBC’s sources claim that an attempt to remove the prime minister could take place in the near future. Starmer’s opponents are expected to become more active after Nov. 26, when the chancellor presents his budget statement in the House of Commons and announces tax increases aimed at reducing the budget deficit.

According to the BBC, such a move could destabilize international markets and jeopardize the good relations established between Starmer and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Earlier, on Nov. 8, the Daily Mail reported that Starmer is expected to resign by the summer of 2026 due to a loss of confidence.
