Putin and Tokayev sign new strategic partnership declaration

During a meeting in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a declaration elevating relations between the two countries to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance.

Putin announced that the share of national currencies in bilateral trade will soon exceed 90%. He also noted that Russian companies remain among Kazakhstan’s leading investors, with more than 17,000 business entities operating in the country.

The Russian president said the parties will intensify cooperation in the extraction of rare metals and work to increase vehicle throughput at border checkpoints.

He noted that the widespread and unrestricted use of the Russian language in Kazakhstan would bring great satisfaction to Russia.

The declaration also states that cooperation with Rosatom will continue, including the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. The agreement separately addresses wildlife, with Amur tiger cubs from Russia to be taken to Kazakhstan.
