Karabakh conflict’s successful resolution opens new era for entire region, says Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan
The successful resolution of the Karabakh conflict has opened a new era for the entire region, bringing peace, stability, and economic progress, Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mujtaba Demirchilou said in an interview with Azerbaijani media.
According to him, the new regional environment has created favorable conditions for the comprehensive expansion of economic cooperation in areas such as transit, energy security, trade, investment, and humanitarian initiatives, as well as for strengthening sustainable regional solidarity.
The ambassador noted that the strategic project known as the “Araz Corridor” further expands the opportunities Iran has developed over the past thirty years to connect Nakhijevan with other regions of Azerbaijan. He said construction of the Aghbend–Kalala road bridge is nearing completion and is expected to be commissioned by the end of this year. Once operational, it will serve as the basis for establishing a new border crossing between the two countries, significantly boosting transport and trade potential.
Demirchilou added that this corridor not only links the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic with other regions of Azerbaijan but also represents an important strategic segment of the International North–South Transport Corridor. As such, it will play a crucial and foundational role in the development and stability of trade and transport links both bilaterally and at the regional level.
