US planning to impose sanctions on all countries trading with Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his support for a bill proposed by members of Congress that would impose sanctions on countries doing business or trade with Russia, oneindia.com writes.

Trump emphasized that Iran could be among the countries subject to such measures.

“I’ve heard about it, and I’m happy about it. The Republicans are putting in legislation that is very tough… on any country doing business with Russia. We may add Iran to that,” the American leader said.

The move follows the United States’ announcement that Trump has imposed “massive” sanctions on Russian oil giants Lukoil and Rosneft. The measures are aimed at weakening Russia’s energy sector and limiting its ability to finance the war in Ukraine.

As noted, the bill would give Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 500 percent on goods imported from countries that buy Russian oil or gas and are deemed to be “insufficiently” supportive of Ukraine. The move targets major buyers of Russian energy, including China and India.
