French ambassador to Azerbaijan says Trump Route meets both Azerbaijan’s and Armenia’s interests
France has always supported the peace process and the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan. The new French ambassador to Azerbaijan, Sophie Lagoutte, said in an interview with Azerbaijani media.
“I am very happy to see the continuation of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia after years of conflict,” the ambassador noted.
According to her, the meeting held in Washington on Aug. 8 gave a decisive impetus to this process. Mutual recognition of territorial integrity based on the 1991 Almaty Declaration is one of the main points that France has always emphasized.
Lagoutte noted that the peace talks are already yielding results in the form of concrete steps that directly benefit both countries.
“We hope that the signing of the peace treaty will allow this positive process to be completed as soon as possible and, by opening the borders, will create conditions for regional cooperation and deepening ties,” the diplomat noted.
She added that the Trump Route has the potential to play a decisive role in the development of relations in the South Caucasus and meets the interests of both Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“This project also serves our interests in terms of opening an additional route between Europe and Asia, which will benefit all parties. Together with the European Union, we are ready to support this connectivity agenda, which connects the TRIPP project with the wider region. The final development of the details of the project will allow us to start such joint work in the near future,” the ambassador noted.
