US and Russia secretly developing new plan to resolve conflict in Ukraine
The United States and Russia are secretly working on a new plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Axios reports.
The plan consists of 28 points and is inspired by U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker a deal in the Gaza Strip.
It is divided into four categories: peace in Ukraine, security guarantees, European security, and Washington’s future relations with Moscow and Kyiv.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff discussed the plan’s development with Russia’s Presidential Envoy Kirill Dmitriev during a visit to Miami in late October. Dmitriev told Axios that the basis for the plan was the set of principles agreed upon by Putin and Trump in Alaska. According to him, Moscow’s negotiating position is strengthening.
The White House has begun informing not only Ukrainian officials but also European counterparts about the new plan.
