Trump approves CIA plans for covert operations in Venezuela
U.S. President Donald Trump has approved CIA plans to conduct covert operations in Venezuela, The New York Times reports, citing sources.
“Trump approved programs that could be aimed at preparing the battlefield for future actions,” the outlet writes.
According to the report, the United States has also held secret negotiations with representatives of the Latin American country, discussing the fate of Nicolás Maduro and Washington’s access to the country’s oil.
Earlier this week, Trump stated that he does not rule out any options regarding Venezuela. CNN reported that, after unsuccessful attempts last month to advance negotiations, the U.S. president ordered a halt to contacts with Maduro and his inner circle, frustrated by the latter’s unwillingness to resign voluntarily.
