Armenia elected to UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the first time

On Nov. 24, during the 25th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Armenia was elected a member of the World Heritage Committee for the first time, the Foreign Ministry’s press service reports.

“In the round of elections for the available open seats, Armenia achieved the best result, receiving 105 out of a possible 161 votes, which reflects the high level of confidence the international community places in Armenia in the field of cultural heritage preservation.

By assuming membership in the World Heritage Committee, Armenia reaffirms its commitment to protecting, preserving, and restoring cultural and natural heritage, as well as promoting international efforts to advance the fundamental principles of the World Heritage Convention,” the ministry stated.
