NATO chief says Armenia and Azerbaijan in much better state than Georgia
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said any country in the Euro-Atlantic area that could also become a NATO member can express its desire, after which there is a certain process. Rutte added that he has no illusions about what is happening in Georgia.
He noted that NATO is cooperating with Georgia, and given that, the organization, among other things, has expressed concern about the current situation.
“We are very concerned and have communicated this clearly to the Georgian side. We are working with them. I believe that the cooperation itself now serves its purpose — ensuring there is a channel through which we can express our concerns. Let’s also look at the issue from a broader perspective. We see what is happening between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They are in a much better state, also thanks to measures taken by President Trump. Therefore, I would view the situation in Georgia in the context of the entire South Caucasus,” Rutte said.
