Russia opposes NATO troop deployment in Ukraine, says Peskov
Russia is against Ukraine’s desire to host NATO troops on its territory, as it would pose a threat to Russia, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
“So, what will happen with Ukraine’s future? Will Ukraine continue to seek NATO membership? We are opposed to that because it would pose a danger to our country. Will Ukraine aim to host foreign troops or NATO forces on its territory, near our borders? No, we are against that, and there are many other issues that need to be resolved during peace negotiations. So, this is a very complex issue,” Peskov said.
He added that Russia desires peace. Peskov also expressed hope that the U.S. initiative to resolve the Ukrainian conflict would succeed. In his view, U.S. President Donald Trump’s program regarding Ukraine provides a solid foundation for working toward a peaceful resolution.
At the same time, Peskov stated that Europe wants to “spend stolen Russian assets to support Kyiv’s military machine.”
