Colombia’s president tells Trump not to threaten them, or he’ll ‘awaken the jaguar’
Colombian President Gustavo Petro warned that any U.S. strike on land targets inside Colombia would be considered a declaration of war. His remarks came in response to threats by U.S. President Donald Trump about possible military action in South America under the pretext of combating illegal drug trafficking, Life.ru reports.
“An attack on our sovereignty would amount to a declaration of war. Do not destroy two centuries of diplomatic relations,” Petro wrote on X, addressing Trump.
The president emphasized that Colombia is doing everything it can to fight narcotics trafficking.
“Without firing a single missile, I have destroyed 18,400 laboratories during my term. Come with me — I’ll show you how they are taken down every 40 minutes. But do not threaten our sovereignty, because you will awaken the jaguar,” he warned.
