Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro held a phone conversation with his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump.
Speaking on Venezolana de Televisión, Maduro described the discussion as respectful and friendly.
“I received a call and spoke with US President Donald Trump. I can say that the conversation was respectful, even friendly,” Maduro said.
He added that the talk will help pave the way for respectful dialogue between the two countries.
The Venezuelan leader also noted that his country seeks peace and welcomed diplomatic dialogue with Washington.
At the same time, a group of U.S. senators has introduced a resolution calling on the Trump administration to refrain from using military force against Venezuela without congressional approval.
