Higher education to be free at Georgia’s public universities, PM says

Education at Georgia’s public universities will be free for all students starting next year, 1tv.ge. reports, citing Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

Kobakhidze described the move as a significant reform that will be gradually implemented across the public university system.

“Regarding higher education reform, particularly the issue of funding, we held discussions in both government and political council formats and decided that, starting in 2026, education for students at public universities will be completely free. Those admitted next year and in subsequent years will have free access to higher education. This is a very important change, and it will be gradually introduced throughout the public university system,” Kobakhidze said.
