Kallas says EU has significant leverage to exert economic pressure on China

The European Union possesses substantial leverage to apply economic pressure on China, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.

“The EU has considerable economic influence globally. We have more tools to exert pressure on China than we often realize,” the EU diplomat emphasized.

According to Kallas, the adoption of a new U.S. national security strategy signals to the EU the need to act more decisively — not only regarding Russia and China but also in relation to Washington.

The EU official added that the bloc’s new economic security strategy outlines all potential instruments for applying pressure.
